World of Volunteering organizes weekly activities for all our students and volunteers. These activities are a perfect opportunity for students to meet and develop friendships throughout their stay. Below is a list of some of the most popular activities we offer.
Our organization understands how difficult it can be to arrive in a completely different country and for this reason we offer our volunteers an introductory tour upon their arrival. This tour includes banks, police stations, popular restaurants, the city center, local clubs, and medical clinics. Also included in this tour is a description of the local lifestyle and culture. Our goal is that our volunteers will feel comfortable within their new destinations from the start of their stay.
The first dinner upon arriving in your destination will be with your in-country coordinator at a fine restaurant serving typical food. At this dinner, you will also receive all your orientation and project information and any questions or concerns can be addressed.
Our cocktail lessons are given by local bartenders who are skilled in preparing not only common drinks but regional ones as well. They will teach you how to prepare certain alcoholic drinks and you can taste test every drink made. You will learn how to prepare special local cocktails such as pisco sours, Machu Picchus, or canelazos (a typical Ecuadorian drink). This activity´s availability is dependent on destination.
Salsa lessons are our most popular activity and always attract the most participation. As a major part of South American culture, our students commonly desire to learn it. The lessons at our schools are relaxed and accommodating of all levels of interest and ability. Our tendency for our first classes is to mix everyone together during a group session. If however, you desire an intensive or personal class with one of our expert teachers, we can easily schedule that for you as well. This activity is available at each of our destinations.
World of Volunteering also organizes movie nights for its volunteers. This activity offers a chance to not only meet other students but also improve your Spanish.
Typical cooking classes
The cooking classes are especially designed to teach our students how to create and reproduce a cultural meal. You be taught a typical recipe as well as learn more about the local gastronomy. These classes are a good source of entertainment and cultural immersion.
